How did you go with the Eye Movement Patterns of the previous posting?
Do they seem more familiar now?
Within the next couple of postings, I’ll give you a list of some words and word phrases that are common in daily use in all four styles.
So, continuing on.
Click here for the 4.30 minute AUDIO.
Here it is the image again so that it is easier for you to work with the following material.

Working from the top left down and then to the top right and down:
• Vc = Visual Constructed
Visual is looking up.
People look up to their right when they make images of things that they have never seen before, ie they are constructing the scene.
It does not mean that they are fabricating or lying. They may never have seen something but are attempting to construct it from knowledge they have.
A question you might ask someone would be:
”What would your house look like if the roof was purple and the house was green?”
They cannot answer in one or two words. They must give an explanation or description.
• Vr = Visual Recall or Remembered
Still looking up.
People looking up to their left, are seeing the images from their memory, recalling things they have seen before.
Some people may do this by defocusing their eyes
Questions might be:
“What colour is the roof of your house, and the colour of the actual house?”
“What colour was the room you grew up in?”
They cannot answer in one or two words. They must give an explanation or description.
• Ac = Auditory Constructed
Auditory eye movements are sideways.
Auditory Constructed has the same characteristics as Visual Constructed except that it has to do with hearing and listening, rather than seeing.
A possible question could be:
“What would I sound like if I spoke in a man’s/woman’s voice?”
They cannot answer in one or two words. They must give an explanation or description.
• Ar = Auditory Recall or Remembered
Again the direction of the eyes is sideways, and the characteristics are the same as for Visual Recall, except that they are now for hearing and listening, and sounds.
Possible questions:
“Can you remember the first thing you said this morning?”
“Can you remember the sound of your dog barking?”
They cannot answer in one or two words. They must give an explanation or description.
• K = Kinesthetic
Kinestheric has to do with feelings and the sense of touch.
And remember, if someone is looking down to their right, it is the kinesthetic area.
A possible question:
“What does it feel like to touch your dog just after a bath?”
They cannot answer in one or two words. They must give an explanation or description.
• Ad = Auditory Digital
You largely use this when talking to yourself, ie your internal dialogue, and remembering data.
When a person looks down to their left, they are accessing their auditory digital area.
A possible question:
“Can you say 20 lines of verse or of a song?”
It has nothing to do with the music though.
They cannot answer in one or two words. They must give an explanation or description.
There is quite a lot of material in the two postings Eye Movement Patterns: Parts 1 & 2.
Just take it slowly, one area at a time until you get comfortable.
Again one of the easiest ways and one of the most fun ways is to practise with friends, and to observe people.
Enjoy.
The next posting will start the preferred Learning and Communicating Representational Styles.
